COLES CO. RESEARCH BOOKS Page 3

Cemetery Books:
Takes 4 separate books to include the data from the approximately 100 known cemeteries within the current boundries of Coles Co. As best we know most of the data within each of these books was done by numerous volunteers physically reading the tombstones. Even though data was checked and re-checked several times, there may still be errors, especially with the passage of time, which results in the deterioration of the inscription. Also, please remember, that many times no tombstones were erected. Contributing factors include, family economic status, massive epidemics such as cholera in the 1840's or the Flu in the 1910's. None of these 4 books are indexed. Burials are in alphabetical order by surname, followed be given name, within each cemetery, within each township, which results in having to read each and every cemetery to find the individual you are researching. There are no known cemeteries in Seven Hickory Township.
